Asheville – Asheville Gallery of Art’s September show, “Natural Beauty,” features Elinor Bowman, known for her watercolor figures, and Olga Michelson, known for soft, ethereal landscapes. The show runs September 1st – 30th during gallery hours, 12-5 pm, Fridays and Saturdays. You can also make arrangements for a private tour by emailing a request to ashevillegalleryofart@gmail.com
Though she has worked in other mediums, Elinor Bowman currently prefers to use watercolors or ink. She has painted models from life and lately has enjoyed painting many subjects, from still life to animals. “I’ve had several teachers, in classes and privately, but currently two new granddaughters provide my inspiration.”
Elinor moved to Asheville in 2002, which gave her time to paint. Her work can be seen at Asheville Gallery of Art and at Trackside Studios in the River Arts District in Asheville. She is a member of the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League and occasionally shows at the Red House in Black Mountain, NC.
“Flowers and landscapes are the most attractive subjects I can think of to paint,” says Olga Michelson. She enjoys painting scenes around Asheville and nearby Beaver Lake. “I try to capture changes in the atmosphere surrounding my subjects to make my paintings more emotional, mysterious and personal.”
Originally from Russia, Olga was born and raised in Moscow, where she received her art education. While there, she worked as a decorator for the Moscow Drama Theater and as an assistant architect for the Moscow City Restoration Project.
