Asheville – This past weekend of Aug 7, 8 and 9th the Asheville Racquet Club south hosted the annual Banana Open Singles Tennis Tournament.

Asheville is a great place for the USTA tournament, where over 55 players from NC and neighboring states flock each July to enjoy the mountain weather and competitive tennis.  The tournament typically draws players from TN, SC, VA, GA for USTA level of play, and this weekend was surely up to the norm. The USTA regulations under COVID-19 were respected, and players were able to compete in singles matches of all adult levels, filling all clay courts for 3 days.

Mike Edwards and Mike Madden both from Asheville. Madden defeated Edwards in the Men’s 50 singles, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 1-0 (9).

Next weekend is the Banana Open Doubles Tournament. Members and non-members are welcome to be spectators for the matches which are all on the outdoor courts. Dottie Mattern, the tournament director, said she expects over 220 players for the event.
