Weaverville – It appears that Weaverville will be getting two more large chain stores – Hobby Lobby and Marshalls. In their Monday meeting (Aug 24) the Weaverville Town Council voted to supply water to two developments among other business conducted by the board.
One of those requests the council took up was for a water line extension for Northridge Commons retail businesses. The request came from Magnolia Properties of Greenville South Carolina and will house three businesses, including, according to the application, a Hobby Lobby and a Marshalls Department store.
The Hobby Lobby on the drawings submitted to the council shows a 55,000 square foot building, while a 22,000 square foot space is only marked retail along with a 6,000 square foot space also marked retail. The application did not indicate what the third business might be.
The new shopping center housing the three businesses in total will be located beside the Dollar Tree at North Ridge Commons. Pennell said they had the water and the obligation to supply it. The board passed the request.

According to the Hobby Lobby website, David and Barbara Green, in 1970, “took out a $600 loan to begin making miniature picture frames out of their home. Two years later, the fledgling enterprise opened a 300-square-foot store in Oklahoma City, and Hobby Lobby was born. Today, with more than 900 stores, Hobby Lobby is the largest privately-owned arts-and-crafts retailer in the world with over 43,000 employees and operating in forty-six states.”
