New Owners For an Old Favorite

Dean and Tessa Edwards.

Weaverville – New ownership of Weaverville’s Shop Around the Corner is holding a grand reopening to commemorate the store’s renovation. The Main Street store has recently been purchased by Tessa Edwards and her husband, Dean, both Weaverville natives, North Buncombe High graduates and arts enthusiast. Edwards’ purchasing of the store fulfills a lifelong dream of owning a home decor store.

She has long had a passion for decorating, previously hosting a booth at a consignment design shop.

Edwards and her family were born and raised in Weaverville; they lived here until moving to the Atlanta area for five years. She is excited to return home as a member of the Weaverville business community.

“This is home. You know, we’re so glad to be back here with a family. It’s wonderful to have this opportunity right here on Main Street. I am just ecstatic,” Edwards gushes.

Edwards closed the purchase of Shop Around the Corner on March 1. The store has been a staple of the downtown Weaverville community for 13 years.

On March 12, the store will reopen as Tessa’s Shop Around the Corner at its grand reopening. The store will undergo a decorative revamp and sell products from other local artisans. Furniture in stock will shift from antiques to a vintage focus. Edwards is pivoting to the shabby-chic decorative style.

“My look is more cottage/farmhouse, more relaxed, open and bright. The store design will be white and gray and blush color,” Edwards says. “I want to feature a lot of local artists. We have 18 different local artists selling their items. These include photos, paintings, jewelry makers, wooden bowls.” There will also be some of the old favorites like specialty soaps, teas and cookies still part of their inventory.

To celebrate the re-opening, Tessa’s Shop Around the Corner will have a soft opening in its first few weeks to abide by COVID-19 protocol. Opening day, Friday March 12, the store will be open late with complimentary hand-decorated sugar cookies by a local artist.

Tessa’s Shop Around the Corner will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.
