Asheville – A benefit will be held for Asheville Assistant Fire Marshall Dwayne Fender at The Barn at Paint Fork in Barnardsville on September 18 from 11 am until 6 pm. The fundraiser is to help Fender, a 27-year firefighting veteran, and his family with costs associated with his fight against job-related pancreatic cancer. North Carolina is one of only two states without presumptive cancer coverage for the fire service. Dwayne travels weekly to Duke University for treatments.
The benefit includes an auction, prizes, a gun raffle, a bike, cool cars and truck parade. The parade starts at 10 am, with registration beginning at 9 am from Asheville Fire Station #2 at 415 South French Broad Ave Asheville and running to the Barn in Barnardsville. The cost for entry is $10 per vehicle and an extra $5 per person for the meal.
Donations will also be accepted with the event that is sponsored by The Buncombe County Firefighters Assoc., Asheville Firefighters Local 332, F&Y Asheville 78 and The Barn at Paint Fork.
