Hendersonville – Blue Ridge Humane Society is making a plea to find homes for three of our long-term animals before Christmas. Despite the efforts of our staff, these animals are just not getting much interest and have been waiting to be adopted significantly longer than other animals in our care. The average length of stay for animals ready for adoption is 9.5 days, which means they have reduced chances of experiencing stress or sickness in a shelter environment. We strive to make all the animals in our care enjoy their time with us as much as possible, but nothing compares to having a home of their own. A home for the holidays is our dream for every animal, but especially for the animals that have been waiting longer than most.
Starting off, we wanted to highlight a gorgeous 2.5-year-old dog named Mimosa, who has been waiting since October. This sweet girl always has a smile on her face and is ready to play. She gets along best with dogs that enjoy her rough-and-tumble play style. Her ideal home would be an active family with another playful dog to go on adventures with.
Rosie is a 5-year-old cat that has been in foster care with us since August. She is a sensitive girl who took a while to feel at home with her foster family but has since blossomed into a very affectionate cat. Rosie has lived with other cats, and her ideal home would be more on the mellow side, where she can just lounge around all day.
Last but not least, we have to mention a 2-year-old dog named JJ who has been waiting for a home since October. He is one of the cuddliest dogs you will ever meet, and despite his size, he is incredibly gentle when taking treats. JJ gets along well with dogs of similar size and has won over the hearts of all of our staff and volunteers.
“The holidays are a time to spend with your loved ones, both people and pets,” Executive Director Angela Prodrick shares. “Unfortunately, a few animals have stayed with us longer than usual. Although we do our best to make the animals in our care feel as much at home as possible at our adoption center, there is no place like an actual home, especially during the holidays.
We always reduce adoption fees for animals in our care when they have been available for adoption for over two weeks to hopefully remove a potential barrier for an adopter. Each one of our long-term animals that we mentioned above has a waived adoption fee until they are adopted, and we hope that they each find a home for the holidays with this extra incentive.
