Leicester – The Sandy Mush Community Center has received $2,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need. The community center will use the gift to purchase food for the monthly drive-thru food pantry offered to the Sandy Mush community by the community center. Sandy Mush Community Center Food Pantry is a partner agency with MANNA Food Bank.
“The very generous donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation enables the Sandy Mush Community Center to provide food for many who would otherwise go without.” “At this time of year, we are especially grateful for its support of our work,” said Amy Surrett, board president, at the community center.
Sandy Mush Community Center provides a variety of services to the Big and Little Sandy Mush areas. The food pantry has been in operation since 2017, providing a monthly food box of staples, proteins, and fresh, healthy food to families. The pantry has seen an increase in use during and following the pandemic. These funds, along with community donations, will be combined to meet this increase and continue to provide healthy staples and proteins to its families.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded nearly $17 million in grants.
