New Business Seeks Helping WordPress Users

Asheville – On a warm January afternoon, members of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and invited guests enjoyed Tin Can Food Truck pizza and a ribbon cutting for a business at their downtown location. Friends of Webguy, better known as Chris Kaminski, and chamber members help Kaminski celebrate the official opening of his business, Webguy.tech.

Users of WordPress have a new ally in keeping their website free of malware, maintaining a firewall, and saving time to spend elsewhere in their business—all for one low monthly payment. Webguy.tech is a “safe, protected community of WordPress users,” which touts a one-stop shop for protecting websites using WordPress.

“Actually, it is the rebirth of a company that is five years old,” said Chris when asked about the event. “When we started the original web guy, we had the same goals and plan that we have now, and that was to create jobs and to help people to live here, right. That was five years ago, and it’s even more in need now.”

Kaminski said the original business model didn’t take off, so he regrouped, took a hard look at his business model, and decided to change it from an hourly rate to a subscription-based business. Chris said it was time to find the nitch that wasn’t being filled.

“We looked at how people use WordPress, and a lot of people use it, but most don’t realize or forget that it’s got to be kept up to date.” That’s where WebGuy.tech comes in. “You’d be surprised how many sites, when they sign-up for the service, the first time we scan them, they show up hacked. And they were deep hacks.” As anyone can tell you, being hacked is a bad thing.

Kaminski says the stuff you run on your computer would not find most of these hacks. He said with Web Guy’s service, a plug-in is installed, and “you forget about it. It does it automatically… the whole thing is really seamless, and you don’t really have to worry about your website again.”

With Chris’s $50 per month service, your website is backed up once a day, malware scanned, and protected by a real-time firewall. I asked if removing a bug is an extra cost. “Usually, we can get it out. That’s one of the beauties of the software.” He goes on to say, “It will tell you that it’s hacked. Click on it, and it takes you to the file. Click on the file, and it takes you to the exact line, and you can decide if it’s malicious. If the customer cannot get it out, then there would be a charge.”

Now about those jobs, Kaminski wants to create. He explains that “x” number of subscriptions (within his company) equals a tech job available within our community, “but they’re not crazy difficult tech jobs, so a peron would not require any real special training because it’s all automated. Mostly what the technician would be doing is signing up new people when they come in…and one would also be working from home, making a technical salary.”

WebGuy.tech lists the benefits for subscribers as follows:
