Crohn’s Disease Isn’t Funny But Robin Plemmons Is!

Wednesday, December 6th at the Grey Eagle.

Asheville – Asheville artist and humor writer Robin Plemmons has been finding the funny in things we don’t talk about for most of her career. Her illustrations and witticisms have been a staple of the annual Big Crafty festival since its inception, often pushing the boundaries of things considered taboo to discuss.

With her upcoming show at The Grey Eagle, Plemmons won’t just push those boundaries; she plans to obliterate them entirely.

“Spread Eagle” will find the comedy in Crohn’s, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the entire GI tract and is unfortunately quite common in the United States and Western Europe.

This condition has attacked Plemmons’ body in devastating and horrific ways, but the mom of two has continued to persevere, leading with humor at every opportunity.

She has been fortunate to have a strong support system, and she has even discovered a couple of Facebook groups. As is the case with anything difficult in our lives, an important way forward is to know that you are not alone.

Those online communities have not only helped Plemmons, but through them she has been able to help others.

I have been fortunate to know Robin since 2009. I have seen her take the heartache and difficulties life has thrown at her and turn them into ways to reach out to people in similar positions. Finding the funny in the bleak and the smile through the tears.

I am confident that Spread Eagle will be an event that should not be missed. Whether you are suffering from a chronic illness or not, I am certain you will have a night of laughter that you will not forget.

Spread Eagle is an all-ages show on Wednesday, December 6th, at The Grey Eagle. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the curtain at 8 p.m.
