Tryon hosts Christmas Stroll, holiday events

Eager crowd awaits the ball drop at 10:00 PM for Tryon Midnight.

Tryon – The Town of Tryon will welcome the holiday season with the annual Christmas Stroll on Friday, December 1 from 5-8 PM. All are welcome at the free, family-friendly event along Trade Street, Tryon’s main thoroughfare. Look for music, Christmas lights, and a visit from Santa.

Musicians across a wide range of genres will be stationed along Trade Street and mingle with the crowd. Performances will include strolling carolers, a barbershop quartet and contemporary Christmas favorites. There will also be costumed characters harkening back to historic Christmas celebrations.

Local musicians perform at the Tryon Christmas Stroll.

The Christmas Stroll is an optimal time to catch up on Christmas shopping and look for special deals. Tryon is home to exclusively independently owned retailers, antique stores and nearly a dozen art galleries offering one-of-a-kind gifts.

The evening will conclude with the official lighting of the town Christmas tree by Mayor Alan Peoples.

Santa Claus and his elves will be stationed at the St. Luke’s Plaza near the Christmas tree. Santa will be available for photos and to visit with children who want to share their Christmas wish lists with the big man himself.

The Christmas Stroll is sponsored by Tryon Downtown Development Association (TDDA). A nonprofit organization charged with the promotion and development of downtown,  sponsors events throughout the year.

Additional events in December include the Tryon Christmas Parade, hosted in conjunction with the Tryon Fire Department on Wednesday, December 13. The parade will travel down Trade Street beginning at 5 PM, and feature floats and special appearances from dozens of local businesses and nonprofit organizations. Following the parade, Santa will return to Tryon for another visit at the Tryon Fire Department for complimentary photos.

The holiday season wraps up on Sunday, December 31, with Tryon’s New Year’s Eve celebration Tryon Midnight. A beloved local tradition, Tryon Midnight includes children’s activities, a live band, and refreshments from 8-10:30 PM at the Tryon Clock Tower in the center of town.

Unlike most New Year’s Eve celebrations, Tryon drops the ball to ring in the New Year at 10:00 PM, leaving folks young and old the chance to get to their next party ahead of midnight—or to make it to bed early and greet 2024 well-rested.
