Asheville – The Wortham Center for the Performing Arts will resonate with the sounds of Appalachia, echoing the rich musical traditions of the Blue Ridge region. The occasion? The “Blue Ridge Jamboree: ON THE RISE,” a showcase spotlighting the most promising young artists of the area, all under the age of 25. Scheduled for March 9 at 7:00 p.m., this event promises to be a vibrant celebration of both the ecological beauty and cultural vitality that define this lush region.
At the helm of the Jamboree is Josh Goforth, a renowned musician and raconteur whose accolades include three “Fiddler of the Festival” titles at Fiddler’s Grove. Goforth, who has graced stages as prestigious as the Grand Ole Opry, the Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall, brings his wealth of experience and passion for Appalachian music to the event. Currently, he enriches the Academy for the Arts in Asheville with his expertise, while his musical journey continues to take him across the globe.
The lineup of performers is nothing short of stellar, featuring a blend of seasoned and emerging talents. Among them is Addie Levy, a multi-faceted artist known for her performances in Dollywood and Nashville, who will take the stage alongside her singer-songwriter husband, Eric Pratt. Appalachian Roots, celebrated for their opening acts for renowned groups like Steep Canyon Rangers and Old Crow Medicine Show, promise to bring their vibrant energy to the event. Also featured is Newfound Gap, an old-time and bluegrass band led by the 15-year-old prodigy Bayla Davis, and the melodious ensemble Hightop Mountain Harmony.
Julie Whalen, the executive director of FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge, the organization behind the Jamboree, shared her enthusiasm for the event: “Our mission is to celebrate the ecological beauty and cultural vitality of this Blue Ridge region we’re all fortunate to call home. Part of that involves inspiring our next generation to be caretakers of that heritage. We’re delighted that so many talented young musicians auditioned to be part of this special event.”
