Weaverville – AdventHealth recently unveiled plans to establish a cutting-edge community hospital in Weaverville, Buncombe County, just off US 25/70, towards the west of I-26. The new facility, equipped with advanced medical technology, will offer a range of services including surgery, labor and delivery, and emergency care to residents in Buncombe and neighboring counties.
The concept for the hospital was given the green light by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) in 2022 to address the growing healthcare demands in Buncombe, Graham, Madison, and Yancey Counties. Despite an appeal from HCA/Mission that led to a trial in fall 2023, AdventHealth stands by its vision to enhance healthcare accessibility in the region.
Brandon Nudd, President and CEO of AdventHealth Hendersonville, expressed confidence in the State’s decision to grant the Certificate of Need (CON) for the new hospital, signaling the organization’s commitment to fulfilling the healthcare needs of the community. The strategic location of the hospital aims to facilitate convenient access for individuals residing in the designated service area.
The new AdventHealth hospital, spanning various clinical specialties, will include features such as emergency services, surgery facilities, and a dedicated labor and delivery unit to cater to the holistic wellbeing of patients. The proposed hospital, strategically located in Weaverville, aligns with the outlined need for 67 acute care beds in the region according to the North Carolina State Medical Facilities Plan.
Throughout the extensive planning process, AdventHealth has engaged with local leaders and community members, receiving overwhelming support for its healthcare initiative. The organization is committed to delivering exceptional patient care through its Whole-Person Care approach, promoting wellness of body, mind, and spirit.
As AdventHealth awaits the outcome of the ongoing appeal, the approval of the new hospital project in Buncombe County signifies a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to expand healthcare options in Western North Carolina. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative healthcare project in the weeks to come.
