Woodfin – Mark your calendars for the 9th Annual Woodfin 5K, scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 27, at 9:00 AM. This exciting event not only promises a morning of exhilarating exercise but also serves as a vital fundraiser for the students of Woodfin Elementary School.

Since its inception in 2014, the Read-Write-Run event has been a beacon of support for Woodfin Elementary, generating substantial funds that directly benefit classrooms from Kindergarten through Grade 4. The proceeds help enhance educational experiences, providing resources and opportunities that enrich the learning journey for students in our terrific neighborhood school.

Hosted by Woodfin Elementary School in collaboration with the Woodfin Elementary School PTO, the Town of Woodfin, YMCA of WNC, New Life Community Church, Reynolds Mountain Homeowners Association, and various other community partners, sponsors, and volunteers, the Woodfin 5K embodies the spirit of unity and collective effort in nurturing our community’s future leaders.

Participation in the event is not limited to seasoned runners. All Woodfin Elementary School students are encouraged to join the run for free, provided they register beforehand. Additionally, participants can vie for recognition in various categories, including top overall male/female, top masters (40+), and age group awards spanning from ages 1 to 74 and above.

For those who prefer cheering on the sidelines or lending a helping hand, volunteering opportunities abound. From pre-race preparations to race day logistics such as registration and course marshaling, there are numerous ways to get involved and contribute to the success of the event. Volunteers are welcomed with breakfast and coffee at 7:00 AM in the WES cafeteria, setting the tone for a day filled with camaraderie and community spirit.

It’s important to note that charitable contributions to the Woodfin 5K are tax-deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. Upon making a donation, participants will receive a receipt for their contribution. The Woodfin 5K is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, ensuring that all donations comply with IRS regulations regarding tax deductibility.
