Tryon – The Carolina Airstream Club will hold a rally in downtown Tryon on April 26 and 27 and invite the public to tour the unique travel trailers during a special open house on Saturday afternoon. This is the third annual “Trot into Tryon” rally which the Carolina Airstream Club is organizing. The goal of the rally is to shop local and support independent businesses in small towns such as Tryon. The rally will include a weekend of free, family-friendly events.

Twenty-two Airstream units, representing a variety of models, are expected to fill downtown, an increase from previous years’ participation. The trailors will parade into downtown Tryon on Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. with a parade led by the Tryon Fire Department. They will be parked along McCown Street and the Historic Depot Plaza in downtown.

On Friday evening, Polk County Parks and Recreation will offer a community campfire with s’mores. The campfire will be held behind the Nina Simone statue on McCown Street from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and meet and mingle with Airstreamers, neighbors, and visitors.

On Saturday, April 27, from 2-4 p.m., the Airstreams will offer an open house, with campers opening their doors for the public to tour. Participating Airstreamers will have their doors unlocked.

The Trot into Tryon rally and campfire will also coincide with the Town of Tryon’s monthly 4th Friday event. From 5-7 PM, downtown merchants and art galleries will offer extended shopping hours.

There will be live music, a raffle, and local “Community Caretakers” at the downtown plaza. Organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Conserving Carolina, Rails to Trails, the Historic Preservation Commission, Kudzu Warriors, Foothills Regional Commission, Tryon History Musuem, and Tryon Downtown Development Association will have representations adding to the festivities and sharing community resources and opportunities.

The Carolinas Airstream Club was founded in 1960 and includes Airstream enthusiasts from North and South Carolina. The club holds Airstream rallies in small towns around the southeast United States throughout the year and is a brand of Airstream Club International.

The Airstream travel trailer was first built in the 1930s and maintains a unique “silver bullet” design that inspires a love of Americana travel nostalgia.
