Show Mom You Appreciate Her

Staff rendering.

Asheville – Sunday, May 12th is Mother’s Day, the day to show your Mom how much you love and appreciate all she has done for you over the years. There are so many ways a person can do that, but it is important to make sure “the hat fits.” Try to think about YOUR mom and what YOUR Mom cares about, what she would enjoy. How can you best pamper her and make her feel loved? It can be done in small ways or large; perhaps have a bouquet of roses on the breakfast table in the morning with a note from you. Or perhaps let her start her day with breakfast in bed? You could bring it to her bedroom on a tray. Other thoughts could be to “offer to do the dishes that day or for the week,” offer to wash her car, or perhaps take a household pet for a walk or give them a bath, or any other small chores you think she might like to have taken care of. These would be very meaningful to her; they would show your love for her, but not cost you a lot of money.

A Meal Out on the Town

One of the most obvious choices is to take Mom out to lunch or dinner. Lots of the restaurants are having Mother Day’s specials, with a delicious menu suited for her. On Saturday, May 11th, an elegant Mother’s Day Tea Party is being held at The Omni Grove Park Inn. There will be live music and delectable hors d’oeuvres. Mother’s Day Brunch is being given in the Omni’s Blue Ridge restaurant with an incredible view of the mountains from 12:00 – 2:30 PM on Sunday. After, a visit to the luxurious hotel Spa, where all could unwind and relax, even take a swim, is certainly a possibility. Reservations need to be made for all these. In downtown Asheville, one could go to Hemingway’s Cuba Rooftop Restaurant and Bar with its panoramic view. This restaurant has been recognized as one of the best Cuban food places in the State of North Carolina. In Biltmore Village at the Grand Bohemian, the Red Stag Grill is planning a Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 12 from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM for $75 a person. This is a meal served at the table with a choice of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The Highland Lake Inn in Flat Rock will be serving a special meal for Mother’s Day from 11:00 AM – 4:30 PM in their Seasons Restaurant. There will be an incredible spread of dishes buffet style from 11:00 PM to 4:30 PM for $60 per person, $30 for children from 6 to 11 years old, and free for those 5 or under.

Some Self-Pampering

Other ideas that might appeal are gift cards for some self-pampering. Massage Envy, located on Merriman Avenue, on Hendersonville Road in South Asheville and in Hendersonville is offering a 60-minute massage for Mothers which then allows another person to have one at the same time for 50% off. These must be purchased together. They also offer custom facials and advanced skin care services, so a gift certificate would let her choose her preference. Yam is a wellness studio in Hendersonville near Laurel Park that offers yoga, infrared heat, and massage. On Mother’s Day Sunday, there is a Vibrant Vinyasa class at 9:00 AM. a Bhakti Slow Flow – Warm at 11:00, and a Hot 26 – HOT at 5:00 PM. Their new location is 1620 Brevard Rd. Suite 10 in Hendersonville. Classes are held on both Saturday and Sunday of Mother’s Day weekend. What Mom wouldn’t enjoy having her nails done with a manicure-pedicure gift card? Perhaps she has a place she likes to go, particularly for special occasions. If not, there are many others, like Star Nails at 1987 Hendersonville Road, Majestic Nails at 271 Tunnel Road, or Adorn Salon & Boutique at 12 1/2 Wall Street in Asheville. A mani-pedi could run approximately $60 or more.

A Picnic and Walk

Some mothers like to go hiking, so another idea is to find a tablecloth suitable for use outdoors, prepare a lovely picnic, include other family members, and find a trail to hike. You could fill the picnic basket with some of her favorite foods, her favorite sandwich, and dessert. Of course, grocery stores can help you with deli food for sandwiches and chips or buy something already prepared. There are lots of public parks throughout the city to find a comfortable picnic table for this picnic—Carrier Park, Jackson Park, or Lake Julian. Otherwise, you could venture onto the Blue Ridge Parkway into the surrounding mountains. The important thing is to make Mom feel like she is “Queen for the Day” and is loved by her children and family.
