Weinert Files for School Board

Weinert

Buncombe County – Buncombe County businesswoman Dr. Glenda Weinert has announced her candidacy for the Buncombe County Board of Education Member at Large. Weinert will appear on the November ballot following her appointment to the position after the resignation of Amanda Simpkins in May 2024. With extensive experience in education, from early childhood to higher education, Weinert’s background and passion drive her commitment to seek a full term on the board.

“I want to continue being an advocate for the students and parents/guardians in our schools,” Weinert stated.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Dr. Weinert began her career in early childhood education as a teenager, working in her family-owned Little Beaver Child Care centers. After earning her master’s degree in business administration and organizational management from Kennesaw State University in Georgia, she returned to Buncombe County to manage and eventually take ownership of the centers following her mother’s retirement. Under her leadership, the centers expanded to five locations across the county, serving over 700 children.

In 2014, Weinert received her doctorate in business administration from the University of Phoenix. She has since taught business and management courses at A-B Tech, UNC Asheville, and Lee University in Eastern Tennessee. Additionally, Weinert has served for eight years on the State Childcare Commission, which oversees licensing rules for childcare facilities, registration of childcare homes, setting standards for childcare centers, and defining the duties of the abuse/neglect unit. She is also a current member of the Buncombe County Schools Foundation and was recently appointed by Speaker Tim Moore to serve on the A-B Tech Board of Trustees.
