Brevard – Paige Edwards, a standout student at Brevard College, is set to represent the Western North Carolina council at the prestigious World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) national conference in Washington, DC.

“It’s such an honor to represent the WNC council,” Edwards said. “I’m really excited to be among that group of impressive people.” The WACA Student Scholars program selects only 25 undergraduate students nationwide, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage with higher education institutions, think tanks, and NGOs before the conference.

Edwards’ passion for international affairs was sparked by a History of Terrorism course she took last year. “I found it all fascinating. I’m looking forward to hearing experts speak about international affairs with the goal to encourage policy that is peaceful,” she shared.

Dr. Jordan Kuck, Associate Professor of History at Brevard College, emphasized the significance of this opportunity. “This type of professional development and networking opportunity is extremely rare for an undergraduate student,” he said. Kuck, who participated in last year’s conference as a panel speaker, noted that Edwards will have the chance to interact with thought leaders in both formal and informal settings.

A double major in psychology and history, Edwards has always embraced her academic interests. Although she was once deeply involved in cycling, she has shifted her focus to her studies. “Cycling is what brought me to Brevard and even though I’m not competing anymore, I’m so glad I stayed,” she reflected.

Kuck expressed pride in Edwards’ achievements, stating, “Paige exemplifies experiential education and what it means to be a Brevard College Honors student.”
