Asheville – When art meets community spirit, the results can be transformative. This November and December, Mars Landing Galleries is stepping up to support the Community Housing Coalition (CHC) of Madison County through its Artful Impact initiative, where 20% of all fine art sales will go directly to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene.
A Partnership for Recovery
The partnership between Mars Landing Galleries and CHC is more than just a fundraising effort; it’s a commitment to rebuilding lives and homes in the wake of disaster. For over two decades, CHC has been a champion for affordable housing in Madison County, providing essential support to low-income residents. The recent devastation from Hurricane Helene has intensified the need for their services, making this collaboration timely and crucial.

Chris Watson, Executive Director of CHC, expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating, “We are deeply grateful to Mars Landing Galleries for their generous support during this challenging time. Their commitment to donate 20% of all fine art sales during November and December directly supports our mission of ensuring safe and healthy homes for Madison County residents affected by Hurricane Helene.”
Art as a Medium for Healing
Miryam Rojas, owner of Mars Landing Galleries, initiated Artful Impact last year as a way to encourage art collecting while supporting local artists. This year, the initiative has taken on new significance. “Given all of Helene’s destruction in our mountain communities, there are few greater needs right now than those CHC tackles to keep residents living safely in their homes,” Rojas said.

The decision to dedicate 20% of art sales to CHC was born out of a desire to create a win-win situation for both artists and the community. “Last year, I wanted to encourage people to step into art collecting by offering a special discount off fine art purchases while ensuring that artists receive their full consignment from any purchases,” Rojas explained. This year, the gallery expanded the initiative to include November sales due to the increased financial needs following the hurricane.
Measuring Impact and Ensuring Transparency
As the Artful Impact initiative unfolds, both Rojas and Pike are optimistic about its potential impact on housing recovery efforts in Madison County. The funds raised will go directly into CHC’s general operating fund, which has a proven track record of providing critical support to those in need. Rojas emphasized that CHC’s board ensures resources are used wisely throughout the year, especially during crises.
“Money generated from fine art sales during our Artful Impact goes directly to the general operating fund of the Community Housing Coalition,” Rojas said. “I’m confident any funds donated through the Artful Impact will further support CHC’s critical mission in serving deep needs in our community.”
Join the Movement
Artful Impact 2024 runs from November 1 to December 29, with a special reception on December 6 featuring live jazz performances. The gallery is open Wednesdays through Sundays, inviting art lovers and community members alike to browse and purchase works from over 30 talented regional artists.
This initiative not only supports local artists but also fosters a sense of community resilience in the face of adversity. As Rojas aptly put it, “Our humanity demands that we care for the most vulnerable.”
