Weaverville – A staple for artists in Weaverville celebrated new ownership with an open house on February 8. Artisans on Main founder Leah Baker announced that Amy Spooner would be taking over the helm of the store in late January. Spooner has been with Artisans on Main for nearly two years.
The open house offered Weaverville shoppers the chance to meet Spooner, discover new artists, and learn about planned changes and expansions to the store. Spooner marked the occasion with a drawing for a gift card for the day’s customers as a gesture of appreciation for their ongoing support.
Artisans on Main was founded eight years ago when Baker, an artisan herself, sought her own studio space. The vision grew from there to encompass more than 50 regional artists and crafters.
In announcing Spooner as the new owner of the space, Baker said, “I could not feel more confident and happy about this shift into a new chapter for both of us.”
Spooner noted that her future plans for Artisans on Main include a renewed focus on local artists and items created in the Western North Carolina region, as well as adding online shopping capabilities. Both Spooner and Baker shared their appreciation for the community that has brought them to this point with the artistic hub.
“Now more than ever, I believe in the power of community and supporting one another,” said Spooner in an event announcement. “It’s my hope that Artisans on Main can play a small role in helping our area recover, thrive, and keep the arts alive.”
