Asheville Orchid Festival: A Blooming Showcase at The North Carolina Arboretum

Asheville – The 24th Annual Asheville Orchid Festival will be an extraordinary celebration of orchids. Held at The North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, North Carolina, this event brings together orchid enthusiasts, growers, and conservationists for a weekend filled with displays, informative programs, and orchid-related activities. The festival will take place from March 28th to March 30th, 2025, providing an opportunity for newcomers and seasoned collectors to immerse themselves in the beauty of these exotic flowers.

Event Details

The festival kicks off with a Sneak Preview Night on Friday, March 28th, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, offering early access to exhibits and a chance to purchase orchids. Doors will open to the public on Saturday, March 29th, and Sunday, March 30th, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day.

Admission is $5.00 for anyone over 12, with free entry for members of the Western North Carolina Orchid Society (WNCOS). Attendees will have access to all exhibits, sales areas, programs, and demonstrations. A regular parking fee will apply at The North Carolina Arboretum, except for Arboretum Members.

A Variety of Orchid-Themed Programs

The festival offers engaging programs for orchid lovers. On Saturday, March 29th, A Walk Through the World of Orchids begins at 10:00 AM, hosted by Marc Burchette from the Biltmore Conservatory. This guided tour showcases the diversity of orchids globally.

At 1:00 PM, Ivan Portilla, Vice President of Ecuagenera Orchids, will present The Enchanting Orchids of Ecuador, highlighting unique orchid species from Ecuador.

The Orchid Re-potting Clinic hosted by Graham Ramsey, President of WNCOS, takes place at 2:15 PM, providing expert tips on re-potting orchids.

On Sunday, March 30th, enjoy another chance for A Walk Through the World of Orchids at 10:00 AM, followed by another Orchid Repotting Clinic at 11:30 AM. At 1:00 PM, Mark Reinke of Marble Branch Farms will give insights on growing Cymbidiums in the South.

Meet Graham Ramsey: WNCOS President

As president of the Western North Carolina Orchid Society, Graham Ramsey plays a key role in organizing events like the Asheville Orchid Festival. He is dedicated to educating the public about the care and appreciation of orchids.

Ramsey stated, “For the 2025 Asheville Orchid Festival, WNCOS will herald spring in a grand fashion. In keeping with our theme, Orchid Arcadia, we are building a Roman Aqueduct covered with hundreds of blooming orchids.”

Under his leadership, WNCOS has thrived, offering educational programs and fostering a welcoming community for orchid lovers.

Graham frequently leads workshops and clinics, such as the popular orchid repotting sessions during the festival. His passion for orchids and contributions to the local community make him a respected figure in the field.

About the Western North Carolina Orchid Society (WNCOS)

Founded in 1962, the WNCOS is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the cultivation and appreciation of orchids. As an affiliate of the American Orchid Society, WNCOS serves orchid enthusiasts from beginners to experts. Members enjoy regular meetings, guest speakers, and raffles. The society shares knowledge and fosters a love of orchids, making it a great resource. Regular meetings are on the second Sunday of each month at 2 PM inside the Ivy Building on ABTech’s campus.
