Asheville – The University of North Carolina Asheville recently congratulated Agya Boakye-Boaten, Ph.D., on his appointment as the inaugural Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Geneseo. This new position marked a significant milestone in Boakye-Boaten’s distinguished career in higher education, characterized by his commitment to scholarship, service, and transformational leadership.
Boakye-Boaten’s Impact at UNC Asheville
For nearly 15 years, Boakye-Boaten served as a vital member of the UNC Asheville academic community. He began his tenure as a faculty member in Africana and Interdisciplinary/International Studies and later took on roles as chair of Interdisciplinary Studies and dean of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. His contributions were pivotal in shaping inclusive curricula and launching interdisciplinary programs that enhanced the university’s mission.
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Yvonne Villanueva-Russell praised Boakye-Boaten’s influence, stating, “He has launched interdisciplinary programs and forged global partnerships that have elevated the University’s mission and impact.” His leadership was instrumental in redesigning the Africana Studies Program and co-chairing the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan during its reaccreditation process.
