Mars Hill – Artists seeking a tranquil environment to create and rejuvenate can now apply for the Fall 2025 Individual Artist Residencies at Trillium Arts, with applications due by June 26, 2025. The residencies, set in the serene Blue Ridge Mountains, offer a unique opportunity for artists to focus on their work without distractions.
Residency Details and Opportunities
The Trillium Arts residency program provides private accommodations in a one-bedroom suite, along with access to various creative spaces, including a contemplation gazebo and an open-air workspace. Artists can enjoy shared amenities such as a firepit, hot tub, and walking paths. The program is designed for individual artists across disciplines, including writers, photographers, visual artists, and choreographers.
Phil Reynolds, co-founder of Trillium Arts, emphasized the importance of the residency experience: “We aim to provide a nurturing environment where artists can immerse themselves in their creative processes.” He noted that the facilities are particularly suited for literary arts and visual arts during the fall months.
Residencies are available for one week from September 21-28, 2025, or anytime between October 10 and November 14, 2025. Artists who do not require rehearsal studios are encouraged to apply, while performing artists can use the Red Barn Studio, which is available until October 31, weather permitting. The studio incurs an additional fee of $35 per day.
Eligibility and Application Process
All artists at any stage of their careers are invited to apply, with no application fee required. Reynolds stated, “We welcome artists from various backgrounds and disciplines to join us in this beautiful setting.” A limited number of work exchange scholarships are also available for those who may need financial assistance.
Allison Ellis, an artist in residence who worked on her novel in November 2023, shared her experience: “The tranquility of the Trillium environment allowed me to focus deeply on my writing. It was a transformative experience.”
The application deadline is set for Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:59 pm EST. Interested artists can find full guidelines and application links on the Trillium Arts website.
