We have seen Black Friday and now the world of “happy” holiday shopping is upon us. Make purchases that are a bit more personal this year. With the world in the state that is in, now more than ever, is a time to consider making gifts that celebrate how well we know our friends, family and community members. An intentional holiday filled with kindness and a bit more empathy. Maybe less gift cards is what I am saying.

  • Unusual gifts and handcrafted items by regional artists can be found at the 95th Annual Holiday Greens Market at Clems Cabin this Saturday and Sunday. Another festive holiday celebration, Miracle at the Marquee, will be held at the Marquee Asheville in the River Arts District, co-hosted with Open Doors Asheville, on Friday, December 2 from 6–9 PM.
  • It’s been over two years since the Asheville-Buncombe Reparations Commission was formed. Accomplishments to date include seating members and working toward defining the problem.
  • The Town Council of Weaverville says if developers want water for a project, they should submit an application for annexation first.

  • Asheville’s Harverst Pizzeria has now announced that it would permanently close as a result of a protracted legal dispute and after giving the issue some serious thought. The owner has no choice but to let us know that they will not reopen after the Thanksgiving holiday since they were unable to come to an amicable agreement on a rent structure with the landlord.
  • Chlorophyll is a brand-new small business plant store in West Asheville. Located at 585 Haywood Road. Which includes pottery and potting soils, house plants, landscape shrubbery trees, and garden starters.
  • Instead of a cuddly red panda or a writhing snake, the newest addition to the Western North Carolina Nature Center is focused on life that rises above the ground. Starting on Wednesday, Nov. 16, the Nature Center opens its Educational Farmers Market Garden in collaboration with the WNC Farmers Market. The new display focuses on harmonious coexistence between agriculture and the natural world. The garden produces food for the animals at the Nature Center by utilizing environmentally friendly techniques like rainwater collection, composting, and companion planting.
  • A controversial board member of the Asheville Art Museum was fired from the board on Tuesday and stopped volunteering at the museum. This member was the only current trustee to speak out publicly regarding staff accusations of abuse. According to Saenger, the museum, which opened its doors in 1948, has never had a trustee dismissed. Trustee dismissed from the board of the art museum for criticizing the director
