  • Swiftly after the state budget was finalized, the Buncombe County Commissioners approved giving Asheville City and Buncombe County schools employees an average 2% pay raise, bringing the increase in the total local supplement to 7% over two years. With this, county spending on K-12 education increased 16.58% year over year. Citizens who spoke during public comment were not grateful, but argued the state and the county should be paying teachers much more.
  • Sublime Theater‘s Ben & Angela was a night of laughter and tears. We got to know Ben and Angela as they allowed us to follow their journey.
  • West Henderson passed its sternest test so far, bludgeoning the heralded Pisgah Bear defense, to stay on course to go undefeated for the second consecutive football regular season.

  • Customers of the beloved Sideways Brewery were devastated to learn that the farm brewery off Eade Road in Etowah was closing after the former owners, Jon and Carrieann Schneider, decided to put the facility up for sale as a result of a friendly separation. The brewery was only briefly on the market. It was sold to a family from Austin, Texas, who leaped at the chance to own a brewery in a matter of weeks. After closing on September 1 for just over a month, the brewery has now reopen in spectacular style on October 6 under the ownership of Julie and Louis Schaefern
  • At 3754 Brevard Road near Horse Shoe, Hustle Wing Co. a new eatery that will be a sanctuary for fans of chicken wings is about to open. According to Jared Dotson, the Hustle Wing Company will host its grand opening in the coming weeks, hopefully the first week of November.
  • Voodoo Brewing Co. – New Brewery has now open on Sweeten Creek.  They are known for their Good Vibes
  • The Haunted Trail at the adventure center of Asheville – This is the fourth year that the Adventure Center has hosted this one-of-a-kind live outdoor theatrical experience where guests are promised an entirely immersive and interactive spooky night out. Every year the show is loved by boils and ghouls from all over WNC and we hope to see you there.
