– Janet Haselton Owensby, 85, of Weaverville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 30th, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Owensby was born January 27, 1935 to the late William and Anna Fink Haselton. In addition to her parents, Janet was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J.L. Owensby, and a sister, Patricia Ann Coleman.
Janet was a retired nurse from St. Joseph Hospital, specific to cardiac care. After retiring she pursued her passion for painting with oils, watercolors, chalks, pastels, along with pen and ink. She was an active member of Maranatha Baptist Church, where she faithfully served the Lord teaching, and singing in the choir with the occasional solo. She supported the church with love, prayers, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, time, gifts and talents.
Mrs. Owensby is survived by her six children, Jeff Owensby (Sally), Karen Baumgardner (Maurice), Dean Owensby (Cathy), Jenny Johnson (Cliff), Roxie Hinson (Daniel) and Anna Marie Mabry (Drew); 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Laura Jean VanHooser of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude and recognition to the hospice team, with an honorable mention to Angi White for her professional and personal care.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9th at Maranatha Baptist Church, 1040 Lower Flat Creek Road, Alexander, NC, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.
A celebration of life service will be held immediately following the visitation with Rev. Dave Aumiller officiating.
