– Robert Baning Hackney passed away on June 22, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on February 5, 1949, in Mesa, Arizona to William and Mary Hackney.Robert spent much of his childhood in Asheville, NC. In 1968, he joined the Army and served in Vietnam. Robert was honorably discharged in 1971. He then attended Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and became certified as an electrician. Robert worked as an electrician in Asheville, NC for 30 years, before relocating to Mesa, Arizona.Robert is survived by his sister, Bonnie Hackney; his children, Corie Hackney, Natalie Hackney, Patrick Hackney, Sarah Hackney Meiggs, Mary Hackney, and Leigh Hackney Overton; his grandchildren, Jacob Biber, Natalie Meiggs, and Fern Hackney; his niece, Laura Church; and great-nephew, Ian Church. Robert was preceded in death by his mother and father, and nephew, Robert Clay Church.A graveside memorial service is to be held September 18, 2024, at Lewis Memorial Cemetery in Asheville, NC.
