Since the removal of the Vance Monument, a group sponsored by Buncombe County and the City of Asheville has been visioning with members of the public to reimagine how the space will be activated for equity and inclusion.
Council Debates Water Equity
Asheville City Council approved rate changes for the next fiscal year. They mostly followed staff recommendations, except they wanted to postpone voting on residential water rates until manufacturers and other high-volume water users could be made to shoulder more of the costs of running the system.
Commissioner Whitesides: Surprise Me
The superintendents of Asheville City and Buncombe County schools shared their greatest issues with the Buncombe County Commissioners. Since COVID, the schools are seeing a higher incidence of behavioral health problems, and the achievement gap is not closing.
