Planning Board Told STRs Not Causing Affordable Housing Crisis
Enough people showed up to the December 18 planning board meeting to share their passions for or against regulations proposed for short-term rentals. They pointed out that what staff was recommending would mostly shut down rentals of luxury homes that in no way are affordable housing. More affordable homes are typically rented for supplemental income that helps lessors keep their homes. Lifting regulations obstructing new construction and construction of affordable alternatives was instead blamed for the shortage.
