Asheville – The City of Asheville announced the upcoming launch of a new mobile parking payment app, Flowbird, set to debut on June 2, 2025. This initiative followed the City Council’s approval on December 10, 2024, and was the result of a competitive bidding process after the previous parking app provider’s contract expired.

Enhanced Features for Users

Flowbird promises to enhance Asheville’s parking system with improved functionality and flexibility. The app allows users to pay for parking directly from their mobile devices or computers. Notable features include a real-time map displaying meter availability and the option to pay without needing to download the app. Additionally, Flowbird supports various payment methods, including all major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, ensuring secure transactions compliant with payment card industry standards.

Sabrina Tolley, the Parking Division Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the transition, stating, “This transition reflects our continued commitment to improving public services with accessible, modern tools.” She emphasized that Flowbird would provide a more seamless and intuitive parking experience for both residents and visitors.

Transitioning Smoothly

The City of Asheville will maintain its existing parking zones and meters to ensure a smooth transition for users. The new system will consolidate payments for both on-street metered parking and City-operated lots, while private lots may continue using their preferred parking apps. To facilitate this change, the City will accept payments through the current provider, Passport, until June 30, 2025.

Residents and visitors interested in learning more about Flowbird or setting up an account can visit the project page or download the app from the App Store or Google Play. The City aims to make this transition as user-friendly as possible.

Tolley highlighted the importance of this upgrade by noting, “Flowbird offers a more seamless and intuitive parking experience for both residents and visitors.” The City’s focus on modernizing public services reflects its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all who live in and visit Asheville.

As the launch date approaches, excitement builds around the potential benefits Flowbird will bring to Asheville’s parking landscape. The City remains dedicated to providing efficient and accessible services that meet the needs of its community.
