Asheville – Fuel Goods Inc. announced its plans to invest $1.7 million in a new operations facility in Buncombe County, aiming to create 47 high-paying jobs over the next five years. This investment, made in collaboration with the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville Buncombe County (EDC), is expected to bolster Asheville’s reputation as a center for outdoor recreation and wellness innovation.

Creating New Opportunities

Co-founders Laura Jorgensen and Courteney Lowe expressed their commitment to the local community and the potential of Asheville in the endurance sports sector. “We believe this city has the potential to be a leader in the endurance space, and we’re ready to build a company that proves it,” Jorgensen stated. She emphasized that their mission extends beyond just fueling athletes, saying, “We’re fueling Asheville’s future.” The company, which has roots in the successful subscription box businesses The RunnerBox and The RiderBox, aims to establish a scalable e-commerce marketplace for sports nutrition.

The expansion comes at a time when the outdoor industry in Western North Carolina has become a significant economic driver, supporting over 10,000 jobs and generating $1.4 billion in annual sales. Fuel Goods is poised to contribute to this growth by promoting healthy living and economic opportunity within the community. “We are excited to cement our roots here in Buncombe County and especially proud that Fuel Goods growth can be part of the recovery of this incredible region,” Jorgensen added.

Community Commitment

Amanda Edwards, Chair of the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners, praised Fuel Goods for its expansion plans, highlighting the importance of high-paying jobs in fostering a resilient future for Western North Carolina. “Their commitment to establishing headquarters and creating high-paying jobs plays an essential role in a resilient future for our region,” Edwards remarked. She noted that such expansions not only create jobs but also enhance the community’s investment and strengthen its national reputation as a hub for purpose-driven businesses.

Sabrina Rockoff, Chair of the EDC Board of Directors, echoed these sentiments, stating, “The EDC Board of Directors is incredibly proud of Fuel Good’s growth coming out of the Venture Asheville Elevate Program.” She emphasized that the company’s success aligns with the goals outlined in the AVL 5×5 Strategic Plan, which focuses on nurturing high-wage job opportunities in Asheville. “Supporting founders as they make this transition is at the heart of the work of the EDC,” Rockoff added.

Fuel Goods is committed to providing competitive wages, strong benefits, and career development opportunities while emphasizing inclusivity and skill-building in its hiring practices. This approach reflects their dedication to not only economic growth but also community well-being.

The announcement of Fuel Goods’ new facility marks a significant step in Asheville’s ongoing economic development efforts. The EDC has been instrumental in supporting local businesses through initiatives like the Venture Asheville Elevate Program, which aims to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in the region.

As Fuel Goods prepares to launch its operations, it stands as a testament to Asheville’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and its potential as a leader in the outdoor economy. The company’s focus on high-quality logistics, marketing, and technology jobs will contribute to the area’s economic mobility and reinforce its status as a destination for outdoor recreation and wellness.
